Feelings of Worthlessness

Worthlessness can be defined as feelings of desperation, lack of purpose, or hopelessness. Individuals experiencing feelings of worthlessness may feel insignificant, useless, guilty or experience intense feelings of sadness. Feelings of worthlessness can occur during an episode of sadness, depression, grief, anxiety or be triggered by: 
  • The experience of a traumatic event 
  • Job loss 
  • Financial difficulties 
  • Any other stressful event 

How are feelings of worthlessness treated?

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) , a form of psychotherapy has been shown to be effective in treating feelings of worthlessness, as it can help individuals adjust their thoughts related to these negative feelings.
